*** update ***
Nicholas, I have been checking to buy my ticket for a trip to Europe via KLM. I see that for the first time the Boeing will come 787-9 to Quito and Guayaquil on the day 7 of May 2022. Possibly demand is changing but it is good to see KLM Dreamliners in Ecuador finally. The B777s will always be impressive and fantastic for operating at high & hot (Quito).
Hi Carlos, good information. Let's see if there are no changes, I will try to find out more details.
Very good thanks Nicholas, on the KLM website 7 of May 2022 Boeing team leaves 787-9, It is configured like the old MD-11 for 294 passengers.
I wish it were the B787-10, has configuration for 344 passengers, more than the current B777-200, 316 passengers.
I asked at KLM and they told me that the operation is not yet safe, that has already happened other times that they put 787 and he ends up coming 777, so nothing is certain.
Agree, Thank you very much Nicholas. We will remain attentive 😃
Best regards 👍🏻
Hi Nicolas, the first Boeing finally arrived today 787-9 the KLM. I will be attentive to see your documentary on YouTube 😃 and thank you for it.
Kind regards.
Hi Carlos! There will be a special post here on the blog, but unfortunately there will be no video on YouTube 🙁 it was impossible for me to attend.
It's good that KLM returns to our country, but I have a question, because the Amsterdam-Quito-Guayaquil-Amsterdam triangulation is still being done, just like Air Europa does with the route to Madrid, As far as I know, Iberia did it at the old UIO airport with its A340s due to the length of the runway and the height., As far as I know, that's why I couldn't go directly to Madrid and had to go through Guayaquil., But with the new runway and new planes, I don't know why this triangulation is still being done., since Iberia now makes direct flights with the A350, I've had that doubt for a while. Good post
Hi Joaquin, To do it directly they would have to fly with Boeings 787 and as you can see, They only fly with Boeings 777.
But the track is not enough for him 777? because as I understand it had a length of 4,000 meters and is one of the longest in South America, Furthermore, Air Europa makes the same triangulation with the 787, so I don't understand much there.
The track is not a problem, but the performance of the plane at altitude. Air Europa makes triangulation for commercial issues.
Okay, if it makes sense, The truth is that I have always had this doubt, thank you very much for solving it
you are welcome!
The 777 It can also make the direct flight and on occasions it has done so.. It happens that KLM has a lot of revenue with cargo from UIO.. They carry tons of flowers in their bellies and to avoid penalizing the MTOW they load fuel in Guayaquil. Even if the demand justified divorcing the route.. They will continue to do so because of the load.. To fly direct from Quito they put the route to Paris from the same group… And the 787 It carried some load but not much..
Yes and no, the times KLM flew direct with the 777 It was only due to operational adjustment or during the pandemic, but not on a regular basis under normal operating conditions.
Sure Nicholas. But not because I can't. It is because it maximizes the TOW with load and not with fuel. It does the same in Colombia with the CTG intermediate stop that was previously CLO.. the 787 You can do it perfectly but they prioritize charging.
What has to happen is for the flight to CDG to return.. That would be the best..
You cannot do it directly without being penalized.
Thank you for this information. KLM has been the family airline, since my grandfather's time, who had a KLM certificate addressed to his name, Carlos Reinoso, which I have in my possession, having flown on the Guayaquil-Lisbon route in the year 1958. From there on, the whole family even my children (4th generation) have flown on KLM. I understand that it is the first commercial airline founded in the entire world. It's good that daily flights are returning. The only thing I remember from the 70s is that KLM stopped in Aruba and Curacao.
Hi Carlos, thank you for your message and comment, It would be great to share that certificate with the KLM team in Ecuador.
How lucky to fly on KLM so historically, I would have loved to fly in the MD-11, it is my favorite trijet, It's a shame that it hasn't been possible for years..
Hi Carlos; KLM and Avianca began operating in 1919.
Both fight for the position of being the oldest commercial lines in the world.
The difference, is that one stopped flying for a certain period and the other did not..
