One of our adventures during a trip to Japón time agoás, It was sleeping one night in a hotelápsula. These are very famous in Such, since they are used by travelers who do not mind sharing ásocial areas such as baños, showers, áwork areas or áeating areas.

Staying in a hotel cápsula one Such can be an experience úunique and different from what can be found elsewhere. These hotels are especially popular in Japón, where space is a limited resource and accommodation can be expensive.

Stay in a hotel cápsula

We go fully to the recommendations and experience in general, for the hotel where we are staying called Bay Hotel Ginza (no longer exists) that due to its locationón it was convenient about a meter (essential to visit Japón).

If you travel with normal luggage (a 23kg suitcase) o más grande, It is advisable to have a backpack or a suitcase.áIt's bigger than that with clothes to change, y artípersonal grooming asses, since once you have checked in you have to leave the large suitcase in assigned lockers or in a space designated by the hotel itself.

The Cámen's psulae are separated from those of women. In our case the floor 2 it was for men and the floor 4 was women. Each floor is only opened with a card assigned with the numberúc grouperácapsule and additionally a key to a small lockerñor in which shoes are left to exchange for sandals to enter the áhotel areas.

General view of one of the several corridors of cápsulas. Everybody leave their slippers (that the hotel gives you) outside the cubbyíass.

Already within the áhotel area, a second locker is assigned, with the same numberúmere of cápsula, where one picks up a pajama kit, towels and there is always an art barífree asses (toothbrush, hairbrush, rasuradora, etc.) near the hallway near the showers and bathroomños.

Imagine that the áCommunal areas are around the cápsulas. In these places it is allowed to eat, talk on the phoneéphone, work on the computer etc.. The Cácapsules are found in área más centralized where it is asked to maintain a lot of silence and it is prohibitedíbe conversing or making noise at all out of respect for the people you areán resting.

Once you are clean and in your pajamas, you enter the house.ácapsule that corresponds and what is found is a mattressón, edredón, pillow, a finite shelf, a plug and a mácorner in the corner where you can turn on the light and control the fan and an alarm.

This is all, is máyes no less.

If you have claustrophobia, this type of accommodation is not recommended.ón since it is a small spaceñO. One closes a partition at the foot of the bed and to sleep it has been said (some users sleep with this screen open).

The noise level in these cápsulas is low, however if you hear when other people enter, come out, roncan o tocen. The truth is almost like sleeping in a roomócommunal… The screen of each cápsula is only for privacy.

At check out the best recommendationón is to do it very early in the morningñAna when she bathed themños and showers areán completely clear. There is a meaningáprivacy s, even if you sacrifice a couple of hours of sleepñO. One leaves used pajamas and towels in designated places, collect your belongings from the lockers, Leave the key and card at receptionón and continuedúon with the trip.

For those who stay one night más, They are asked to leave their homes from 10am to 4pm.ácapsules and do not leave anything personal in them since these are the hours in which cleaning services pass.

  1. It would be interesting to have this type of accommodation at the Quito airport (that already exists in airports such as Mexico City and Bangkok) for travelers staying overnight at the airport with connections the next morning. On my last trip with Latam from Miami to Quito, I noticed that there were several passengers on my flight with connections early in the morning to Manta and Cuenca who chose to sleep in the airport chairs.. This would be a good alternative.

    1. Hello JC, it is a very interesting idea. The closest thing we have is the Layover Quito that is at the Airport in the shopping center, where you can spend a few hours resting before your flight. they are not capsules, but in the sense of use, is the closest we have.
